Blog Post 6: How Does My Garden Grow
Our plant did not get that much bigger. Our plant doesn't seem like it has gone through mitosis yet or its in the early stages. Mitosis creates two daughter cells that will increase the number of cells in the plant. The cell will replicate its chromosomes and then splits copied chromosomes. The more cells the bigger the plants body will get. The branches on the plant will grow out the branches and spread out its leaves because of the increase. The plant gets its energy from photosynthesis. Photosynthesis lets plants utilize sunlight as energy source. The energy is converted to ATP. Plants make their own food using sunlight, carbon dioxide, water and chlorophyll to make oxygen and glucose. Glucose helps with the storage of fats, oils, and starches. This is all used to make cellulose for cell walls and growth due to the proteins. The chlorophyll in plants gives them that green color.
